With courage and uncertanity, Maldivian determined to go all-out for a change and blessed as it is, by the dawn of October 29th 2008, we woke up to a new Maldives. It’s people made history. Tears of joy and pain of failure. The two sides of the coin tossed and tested with plain failure and optimism. .
The pride of red green and white with the crescent waving freely in the Maldivian sky. Thanks to the unchallengeable faith and belief of several Maldivians who tirelessly worked for a better nation. Every mother, father, brother and sister worked hand in hand, fighting for a better nation.
The brand new brave leader of our time made a remarkeable run with the help and support of some extraordinary farsighted leaders who was dropped from the election for various reasons. They all worked side-by-side. Like it has never been seen before.
It is indeed people’s victory. The long served supremacy went into history. But not entirely an undignified manner. The power hand over became something that is worth to be praised in a civilized world. Demonstration of courage and modesty by the former and equally how the winner received it.
Than came something that made “Anni” a true statesman at least for the moment. He adviced the people; to be wise and brave in defeat. Assured the Qayyoom and his followers that, change does not mean revenge however a time of forgiveness and compromises.
Infact, this has made the victory a national one. A more deserving win for the people and a lession of courage and wisdom for the generations.
This remarkable win by the present and an effective failure of the previous went into history books. The oath taking of a new government, the funeral of the former president exiled, the defeat of the previous administration became pathetic and quite shocking.
Things changed. Followed by waves of bad decisions and clashes between key players. A time of “roadrunners” in Maldivian politics affronted a large portion of citizen and opponenets. It has become a ‘bad’ time Maldivian politics. Activists in key posts, unpleasant public appearances and grimy talks from all the sides not only heated the political climate but created frictions in a deteriorating live hood .
An opportunity missed? Certainly in many ways. People were in need of a change. They dreamed of a ablest replacement from a 30 year ruler. People hoped for a better life. Fearfully exercised their broken freedom for a change. Years of oppression fueled this desire for a better nation. People talked and listened. Painfully faced the reality. For one reason. To unite. To live together in peace and harmony. To see their kids living in a serene society. To let them progress in life and strengthen their kinship.
It seems hard for Qayyoom to be calm and quite in politics and power. Thus he continue from the beginning of his failure. Dropping every opportunity for him to become a “man of honor”. Technocrats around him trapped by the arrogance and ignorance of their leader.
It has never been good in any front. No much luck. The change we dreamt, the inspiration and hope, trust and faith we put on the so-called united front “Iththihaadhu” collapsed. Becomming a premature failure. Anni became more like the leader of his own party than a national leader.
His statement was right. Courage in defeat, wisdom in victory. Is this really the case now?

I really like the fresh perpective you did on the issue. Really was not expecting that when I started off studying. Your concepts were easy to understand that I wondered why I never looked at it before. Glad to know that there’s an individual out there that definitely understands what he’s discussing. Great job
