It is believed to be the millennium’s longest annular solar eclipse on Friday. Maldives is one of the ideal locations to see the full eclipse. It is sad though, this event has not been proparly communicated in our markets. I couldn’t see this on our official tourism websites like, the visit Maldives or in Ministry’s official site either…
The eclipse starts in the Maldives at 10:15 a.m. (10:45 IST) and peaks at 12:20 p.m. (12:50 IST) before ending at 1:40 p.m. (14:10 IST).
Aquamarine, the India’s first eclips ship is now sailing to the Maldives… It is believed that there are some 900 and over guests aboard the ship.
“I have especially come with my two children to watch the eclipse. I don’t know much about solar eclipse and this was the opportunity to know it. After watching the eclipse, we will visit the city and other small islands,” Mansi Singh, a resident of Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu, told an IANS correspondent abroad the ship.
In such events, I wonder why we keep silent? If that becomes an attraction to Maldives, why don’t the destination be proactive and capitalize on such events?

In such an event such as an eclipse muslims such as us Maldivians do not celebrate these days, for us this is a very scary day. According to our religion we do not party around with other religions and do not invite them to party but it is of their will…..An eclipse is a sign of the end of the world for us. I the Sun sets still in the eclispe position we have been told it would be doomsday. We pray on this day as this shows gods power.

Saeed, you have asked the big question we all have been asking for decades now? Why, why and why!
Don’t you think this is time to ask the same question to “ourselves” as proud Maldivians! Why are we not doing anything to “Provoke” the Authorities, so they could atleast think of becoming Proactive.
Let me end this with wise word from ~Anne Frank “How wonderful it is that nobody need wait a single moment before starting to improve the world”.

@maaiz, Brother, I feel you are very confused about how All Mighty God has created this World! If you believe that Quruan is the Holy Book of God, could you please show us or guide us to even one line, a verse or Surah which says Eclipse resembles doomsday? The day or night of an Eclipse not a scary day or night at all – that’s all rubbish, for sure you can’t prove this from Quruan or Hadhit? Brother Maaiz, if you are confused about Islamic Religion go to someone who you think could help you with this sort of knowledge, if not feel free to contact me anytime.

Hello Nabeel…
Thank you brother.. All the praise be to the LORD of the WOLRDS…
The finer details we see and the hidden wonders of this great creation proves nothing but the intelligence of a mighty power, The Most Supreme..
While I respect Maaiz’s view I would just move a bit ahead.. As Men, we are created to explore and seek knowledge. To appreciate and praise the Almighty for the miraculous wonders on display. Think about it…. Is it not a wonder when we wake up from a deep sleep? How about when clouds move? Why do we see shades of blue in our lagoons? Don’t we feel amazed by the breeze that comfort us? Dooms day is yet another miracle but unknown to any soul. Nither linked to any incident as I know. Maaiz and I maybe not existed few decades ago.? …So deep the life is. Now…we have seen the best eclipse of our time. And it was a “special day” and yet another wonderful moment in time…
